Headquartered in Hyderabad, the company was founded in 1986 by Mr. P.V. Ramprasad Reddy, Mr. K. Nityananda Reddy, and a group of dedicated professionals who shared a vision of making medicines accessible and affordable worldwide. It began operations in 1988–89 with a single manufacturing unit producing Semi-Synthetic Penicillin (SSP) in Pondicherry. In 1992, the company transitioned into a public entity and went on to list its shares on the Indian stock exchanges in 1995.
